𝐑𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐬 (라도비스와 금 샌들)

 

Once upon a time, there lived a rich merchant, named Snefru, in a place called Manf / Memphis. Snefru lived with his wife and daughter, Rhodopis or  Radobee. When Radobee's mother felt her death approaching, she said to Radobee, “You're so pretty. After my death, your father will remarry and give birth to more daughters, and those daughters will be jealous of you.”

Then she gave Radobee a wooden box. There was a necklace of Hathor and very special shoes—golden sandals. Because the shoes only fit her feet, her mother promised those sandals and necklace would protect her from harm. She told Radobee to take good care of them. After her mother’s death, her father did indeed marry another woman. The stepmother and her daughters mistreated Radobee.

Meanwhile, the king held a big party to find a good wife for his son to carry on the royal lineage. However, the evil new stepmother locked Radobee in her room and sent her own daughters off to the party. While Radobee was bathing in the pond, slowly losing all hope, an eagle stole her sandals sitting alone. By chance, the shoes fell from the sky into the prince's lap. As soon as the prince saw the sandals, he became curious about how pretty the owner of these heavenly shoes might be, so he decided to find the owner of the pair.

After some time, he arrived at Radobee's house, but the stepmother would not allow Radobee to wear the sandals and only addressed her a maid. Still, the prince allowed Radobee to wear it, and once Radobee saw them, she cried “These are the sandals my mother gave before she died!” and she brought another pair. Once the prince had listened to her story, he wanted to imprison her stepmother, but she asked him for forgiveness. She said  “That would be my mother’s will, and it is the condition of our marriage."

옛날 옛적에, "만프"라고 하는 곳에 부자 상인 "스네프루"가 살았어요. 스네프루와 아내와 딸 "라도비/라도비스"가 같이 살았어요. 라도비 어머니는 죽음이 다가오는 것을 느껴서, 라도비에게 “라도비는 너무 예뻐서 엄마 죽은 후 아버지와 다른 여자와 재혼하여 딸을 낳으면 그 딸이 라도비를 질투 할 거라고 하셨어요. 그리고 나무 박스를 주셨어요. 그 안에 하토르 신 의목걸이와 아주 특별한 구두/금 샌들이 있었어요. 라도비 발에만 맞는 구두이고, 라도비를 지키는 것이니까 잘 돌봐주라고 하셨어요. 어머니가 죽어서 아버지는 다른 여자와 결혼했고, 새어머니와 딸들은 라도비를 학대했어요. 

그 중에 왕님 후손을 잇기 위한 좋은 아내를 찾기위해 큰 파티를 열었어요. 그런데 새어머니는 라도비를 방에 가뒀어요. 또는 친딸만 파티에 보냈어요. 라도비는 아무 희망을 없이 연못에서 씻는 동안 독수리가 구두를 훔쳤어요. 그 구두는 하늘에서 왕자님의 손에 떨어졌어요. 왕자님은 구두를 보자마자 "하늘에 보내는 이 구두의 소유자 얼마나 예쁠지 궁금해졌어요. 그래서 그 구두의 소유자를 찾기로 했어요.

얼마 후, 라도비의 집에 도착했어요. 그런데 새어머니는 라도비가 구두를 신는 것을 허락하지 않고  하녀라고 했어요. 그런데 왕자님은 라도비가 구두를 신는것을 허락했고, 라도비는 구두를 보며 “이 구두는 우리 어머니께서 돌아가시기 전에 주신 구두예요.”라고 말하며 다른 한 짝을 가져왔어요. 왕자님은 라도비 이야기를 듣고 새어머니를 감옥이 가두려했지만 라도비가 새어머니를 용서해 달라고 했어요. “그것이 우리 어머니의 유언이고, 그리고 제 결혼의 조건이에요"
